Thank you for supporting neighbors in need

Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services

At Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services (SFBFS), we are dedicated to assisting those in need in our community. Over the past two years, food insecurity has risen by over 40%. There are now approximately 250,000 individuals experiencing hunger in Sacramento County, half of which are under the age of 18. To meet this need, SFBFS distributes 2.8 million pounds of food every month – that’s 2.3 million meals!
With so many people in need, the incredible support from the Combined Federal Campaign (CFC) plays a key part in our ability to support families and individuals facing hunger. Thanks to your payroll contributions, we can feed our most vulnerable community members in Sacramento.
With CFC’s help, we can be there for people like Michael. Michael visits the food closet at Sunrise Christian Food Ministry, one of Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services’ partner agencies, several times a week.
Michael has nine different college degrees and is highly skilled in computer repair, but a painful divorce and turn to alcohol drove him to homelessness in 2018. "For lack of a better term, Sunrise Christian Food Ministry is the only reliable source of food I have," said Michael. "If it wasn't for programs like this, guys like me would starve."
Within the pain hunger brings, our partners stand by their clients with compassion. Michael said, "When I come to the food closet, I feel like a human being again for a minute. It's the best part of my day.”
There are countless stories like Michael’s that represent the deep need for local food pantries. Stories like Macey’s, who had lofty medical bills from unexpected medical complications and struggled to afford food. She “never once felt shameful about asking for help. SFBFS made the process so easy.”
People who face hunger can be homeless and unemployed or they can be a low-income family struggling to make ends meet. Either way, everybody is welcome. There is no judgment on those seeking help. It’s up to us to provide the kind and compassionate hand up that’s so desperately needed in our community.
