Jaquan jumps in the pool, blows bubbles and learns exciting new words like “ball” and “swim.” His parents have a front-row seat to his newfound learning, as they can participate in his swimming lessons, purchased with a grant from the Family Fund of The Arc Central Chesapeake. “During his lessons, he is all smiles,” says his mother, India Grant.
Though he has fun in his classes, swimming is a critical survival skill for Jaquan and other kids with autism.
Drowning is the leading cause of death for autistic children--they are 160 times more likely to die from drowning than other youth.
As a federal employee participating in the Combined Federal Campaign, you can support children like Jaquan with a gift from your paycheck.
The Arc Central Chesapeake Region works with youth and their families under 21 to ensure they have access to the resources they need for their children to be successful. Through Family Navigation, educational resources, and grants and programs like the Family Fund, The Arc is impacting the community one family at a time. In the last year, The Arc supported over 350 families.
The Arc needs your support to continue providing services for children, like Jaquan. Your decision to donate a few dollars per pay period helps families access educational support, critical therapies and connections with their communities.
Your contribution of:
• $5 per pay = pays for swimming lessons for a child like Jaquan
• $10 per pay = pays for IEP support for a family needing to access resources at school
• $25 per pay = ensures that our Family Navigation services will always be free for families
The Family Fund is one of the many services offered by The Arc Central Chesapeake. These services ensure the wellbeing of many children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, including living services, workforce development, behavioral health services and more.
