My name is Ryan and I served as a Captain in the Army and was deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. When I got injured overseas and had to return home, I knew I needed a service dog to become independent again. I applied for a service dog and received Griff from Fidos For Freedom.
My confidence has grown since Griff came into my life. Trust in my ability to be solely responsible for Griff's care. The ability to navigate public situations that previously would have caused me anxiety. Griff has undoubtedly helped boost my confidence!
Some of Griff’s special skills include holding the bottom of my jacket so I can zip my coats one handed, fetching things off the ground if I drop them, bringing me items from across the room, and acting as a support to help me stand up when I am sitting on the ground. Griff has benefited me emotionally the most by further building my confidence. Being partnered with Griff has highlighted my ability to care for his needs which has in turn enhanced taking care of myself. Additionally, while in the community, many people want to know about Griff which has led me to be more outgoing and interactive with others. Nowadays we are still out and about in the community regularly, and he goes to work every day with me. He's been to Florida, New York, Texas, Hawaii, Missouri, and Massachusetts.
Being partnered with Griff has really enhanced my life and those around me. We can’t thank the crew at Fidos for Freedom enough!
